Unsung Heroes 1898 Version 0.1.132 (Hotfix 3) + New Trailer and Itch.io Page
I unfortunately skipped a week when it comes to the weekly hotfixes/updates, but I figured I would work on hotfix 3 and the trailer/new Itchio page at the same time. If you have not seen it yet, check out the new trailer for Alpha 1.
As for hotfix 3, this update mostly finalizes compatibility with controller support, fixes additional bugs with the AI, and makes some slight UI changes. The plan moving forward is simple: with the new Itch.io page done, I'm going to focus on making a game dev video summarizing all of Alpha 1's development. In the background, I have two more hotfixes I want to add. These are going to be even smaller in scope than the previous ones and will only add a few things: key binding support and a few small enhancements to the AI. I think the past hotfixes have been fairly effective at making the AI more enjoyable to fight against. The Las Guasimas and San Juan maps, which used to be a walk in the park, are now a little more challenging and can't be completed by just the old "run and gun" strategy. The infantry AI still make odd decisions, especially in finding cover, and artillery units can still make things unbalanced, but these are things I plan on tackling first with Alpha 2.
Game Improvements
-New input system implemented for nearly all the menus and the museum mode. The whole game is now playable on controller. NOTE: You will likely need to still use your mouse for the options menu and the mod manager. Controller support for these menus is not in the scope of Alpha 1, since these menus will be further developed for Alpha 2.
-Menu tooltips on the bottom of the screen will adjust to show either keyboard or controller controls depending on what the player is using.
-You can now zoom in while in the museum mode (uses the same controls as the aim-down sight controls in the main game).
-Slight changes to the font and UI in the museum mode and on the instant action menu.
Bug Fixes
Player Movement
-Massively lowered default look sensitivity levels for all playable units.
UI
-Fixed a typo in the Tutorial screen regarding controls for switching weapons.
-Museum mode had a jarring loading transition when exiting back to the menu. This is because the loading function had not been implemented correctly. This has been resolved in this hotfix.
AI
-AI infantry no longer will repeatedly walk into enemies and push them around while in the charge behavioral state. Instead they will stop a short distance before an enemy and attack from there.
-Added improved aiming on charge behavioral states.
-AI infantry will now update more frequently to search for enemies in both the defend and charge behavioral states.
